The price of a verified B2B work email has collapsed to one or two cents. LeadMagic sells credits "from $0.007" and charges nothing for failed lookups; Findymail sells 5,000 finds for $99 a month and refunds credits if bounces exceed 5%. Meanwhile ZoomInfo's median contract on Vendr is $33,500 a year (1,574 purchases) and Cognism's is $32,750 (94 purchases). The same email, three orders of magnitude apart in price, depending on who is buying and what is wrapped around it.
The second finding: sequencers have stopped treating data as someone else's business. Instantly sells credit packs against a "450M+ B2B leads" database with "waterfall email enrichment with 5+ providers"; Saleshandy claims 852M+ contacts and openly names its suppliers; lemlist bundles a database it claims at 650M+ (450M+ in its own MCP docs); Smartlead now prices plans partly on verified emails included. Data is turning into a feature of Sequencing & sending, not a layer of its own.
The three tiers of the market
| Tier | Examples | Price signal (as of Oct 2026) | Who buys |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enterprise databases | ZoomInfo, Cognism | Median ~$33k/yr on Vendr (ZoomInfo, Cognism) | Enterprise RevOps buyers, In-house SDR teams |
| All-in-one database + sequencer | Apollo.io, Snov.io, Hunter, Lusha | Seat or credit plans, $34–$300/mo | Founders and small B2B teams, small teams |
| Specialist finders | Prospeo, LeadMagic, Findymail, Icypeas, Enrow, Wiza, Kaspr, Dropcontact | $0.005–0.02 per found email | Lead-gen agencies, GTM engineers |
| Waterfall aggregators | Clay, FullEnrich, BetterContact | $0.055–0.25 per valid email, or a platform fee | Agencies, GTM engineers |
What a valid email costs
All prices are list, as shown on vendor pages in October 2026. "Per email" is my arithmetic from the plan's credits, assuming one credit per found email.
| Vendor | Entry plan | Effective cost per found email | Billing rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| LeadMagic | $99 for 5,000 credits; $849 for 100,000 | $0.0198 → $0.0085 | Failed lookups free; mobile = 5 credits |
| Findymail | $99/mo (or $79 annual) for 5,000 | ~$0.016–0.02 | Pay on found; <5% bounce guarantee |
| Icypeas | $19 for 1,000; $499 for 100,000 | $0.019 → $0.005 | Catch-all check included |
| Enrow | $17 for 1,000; $397 for 50,000 | $0.017 → $0.008 | "No result, no charge" |
| Hunter | $49/mo for 2,000; $299 for 25,000 | $0.025 → $0.012 | Includes sequences |
| Snov.io | $39/mo for 1,000; $738 for 50,000 | $0.039 → $0.015 | Includes sequences |
| FullEnrich | $55/mo for 1,000 | ~$0.055 | "Verified, or it's free"; 25+ sources |
| BetterContact | $15 starter; $49 pro | ~$0.08 per valid email (SyncGTM estimate, Apr 2026) | Charged on success; verifies via Bouncer |
| Dropcontact | €79/mo for 500 | ~€0.16 | Pay on success; no contact database |
| Wiza | $99/mo for 500; $990/yr "unlimited" emails | $0.20 monthly; flat annual | Phone $0.35 |
| Kaspr | €45/mo "unlimited" B2B emails | Fair-use cap | Phones 1,200/yr |
| Clay | Launch $167/mo, 3,000 data credits (Oct 2026) | ~$0.15–0.25 per valid email (SyncGTM estimate) | Charges per provider call |
LeadMagic, Findymail, FullEnrich, BetterContact, Enrow, Dropcontact and Saleshandy all say they charge nothing when no valid email is found. In 2023 most tools billed per lookup. A data vendor that bills for misses in 2026 is mispriced.
Accuracy claims are marketing until proven
Every finder claims 95%+ accuracy. The only comparative bounce numbers in circulation come from vendors grading their competitors. Prospeo's own comparison puts Apollo at 32–38% bounce, Lusha at 22–28% and Clay's waterfall at 10–14%, while giving itself "<5%". Those numbers are from a competitor's marketing blog and should be treated as such. SyncGTM's April 2026 ranking quotes BetterContact at an 87–95% email hit rate and FullEnrich at 83–90%. Both are vendor-claimed hit rates, not independently measured bounce rates.
The more honest signal is the guarantee. Findymail refunds credits above a 5% bounce rate. MillionVerifier refunds "any email we can't verify with certainty". A guarantee costs the vendor money if the claim is false. A percentage on a landing page costs nothing.
No independent, dated, multi-vendor bounce test was found for 2025–2026. Every comparison located was written by one of the vendors being compared. A public benchmark run by a neutral party would be cheap to produce and widely cited.
Clay repriced, and the waterfall got cheaper
Clay replaced its Starter/Explorer/Pro tiers on 11 March 2026 with Launch and Growth, splitting billing into Data Credits (lookups) and Actions (workflow steps). Databar reports marketplace data costs fell 50–90%, but HTTP API calls now consume Actions and need the Growth tier. Clay's pricing page confirms the Data Credits/Actions split and usage-based AI pricing, and lists Launch at $167/mo ($150 annual) with 3,000 data credits and Growth at $446 ($401 annual) as of October 2026. Databar's $185/$495 and 2,500 credits differ from the vendor page; use the vendor figures (Clay).
Read: Clay is conceding that the data is cheap and moving its margin to orchestration. That is the same move Clay makes on its company page, and the same space a sequencer enters when it adds a waterfall.
The bundling trend
| Sequencer | Database claim | How data is priced (Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Instantly | "450M+ B2B Leads", 5+ provider waterfall | Separate credit packs: $47 (1,500 credits), $97 (5,000–7,500), from $197 (10k–200k) |
| Saleshandy | "852M+ verified contacts" | 1,500–4,000 credits bundled in outreach plans; email 1 credit, phone 6; unverified free |
| lemlist | "650M+ leads" claimed; 450M+ in its MCP docs | Enrichment add-on $16/mo for 2,000 credits (~400 emails), 25+ providers |
| Smartlead | — | 2,000–170,000 "verified emails" bundled into $39–$379 plans (pricing) |
| Apollo.io | "240M contacts & 30M companies" | Pooled credits that now also buy warmup, domains and mailboxes |
Two details matter. First, Saleshandy names its waterfall: Saleshandy, Prospeo, RocketReach, Findymail, Enrich.so, Scalelist, ZeroBounce and BounceBan. The specialist finders are becoming wholesale suppliers to sequencers. Second, Apollo's credits now pay for mailboxes and domains, so the data vendor is moving into Inbox & domain infrastructure while sequencers move into data. See Built-in lead database for the feature view.
Instantly does not publish how many credits one found email costs in SuperSearch; the help article located returned 404. The effective per-email price of Instantly's data is unknown.
Data as a share of the outbound budget
A worked example, my arithmetic from the prices above (October 2026): an agency contacting 10,000 new prospects a month with a three-step sequence (30,000 sends).
| Line | Low | High |
|---|---|---|
| Data, 10,000 valid emails | $100 (LeadMagic Professional rate) | $800 (BetterContact at ~$0.08) |
| Clay platform, if used | $0 | $446 (Growth) |
| Sequencer | ~$94 (Smartlead Pro) | ~$174 |
| ~45 mailboxes at 30 sends/day | ~$157 (Saleshandy at $3.49) | ~$157 |
| Data share of tool spend | ~30% | ~80% |
Data is the largest variable line in a cold-email stack, and the one where buyers have the most room to cut. That is why sequencers want it.
The EU problem
Most of these databases were built by scraping LinkedIn. LinkedIn sued Proxycurl in January 2025 and ProAPIs in October 2025, and removed Apollo's and Seamless.AI's company pages in March 2025. France's CNIL fined Kaspr €240,000 on 5 December 2024 over contact details collected from LinkedIn; Kaspr later deleted its database (France). Dropcontact markets the opposite model: no contact database, algorithmic pattern-matching, EU servers. For a German founder this is not an abstract risk; see Data sourcing law, GDPR and ePrivacy and Germany.
What this means for an entrant
- Do not build a database. Wholesale a pay-on-valid waterfall from two or three finders (Saleshandy's supplier list is a ready shortlist) and resell at a modest markup. At $0.01–0.02 cost you can price at $0.03–0.04 and still undercut Clay for simple "name + domain → email" jobs.
- Charge only for valid results. It is now table stakes; billing for misses will be noticed in the first week.
- Own the bounce guarantee, not the accuracy claim. Tie found emails to Built-in email verification and refund credits on bounces above a threshold. It is the only accuracy promise buyers believe.
- Make data provenance a feature in the EU. Log source and legal basis per record. US sequencers do not, and EU buyers will increasingly ask. See the openings.
- Leave Clay its niche. Clay sells orchestration to GTM engineers. Most Founders and small B2B teams need a fraction of it; serve them inside the sequencer and integrate with Clay for the rest.
