The read
The default cold email tool for founders and small agencies, now turning into a full outbound suite. Weak on support, pricing clarity and agency tooling.

Instantly is the tool most people mean when they say "cold email software" in 2026. It sells a sequencer that lets you connect as many Gmail, Outlook or SMTP inboxes as you like for one flat price, warms them up through its own peer network, and rotates sends across them. Around that core it now sells a 450M-contact lead database, a CRM, website visitor identification, AI agents and, since 2026, inboxes it hosts itself.

The surprising fact is how small and unfunded it is for its reach. Instantly has raised no outside money. It went from launch in 2021 to $2.4M ARR in nine months with 15 staff and to roughly $20M ARR by December 2024, according to founder interviews and third-party write-ups. Its main growth engine was its own product, AppSumo, a Facebook group and affiliates. It did not use a sales team.

Instantly in figures
  • Revenue: $2.4M ARR (2022, founder interview), ~$20M ARR (Dec 2024, reported), $38.2M (2026, GetLatka estimate)
  • Customers: 2,900 paying (2022) → "40,000+ customers" (developers page, Oct 2026)
  • Team: 15 (2022) → 50+ (vendor estimate) to 200 (GetLatka estimate)
  • Warmup network: "4.2M+ accounts" (vendor claim, llms.txt)

The 2026 changelog shows the product moving fast toward agents: an AI Deliverability Agent (June), the Lead Finder Agent (July), five vertical "Instantly Agents" including an ElevenLabs voice agent (22 September), and a full app redesign around an always-present assistant (29 September), all per the Instantly changelog.

AirMail is the strategic move. Instantly says AirMail inboxes are "not resold Google Workspace or Microsoft accounts" and that "no third party can pull the rug". Instantly is taking the inbox layer away from Google and Microsoft, after Google's autumn 2025 wave of mailbox suspensions hit agencies that had been using reseller inboxes. See Provider crackdowns and Google vs Microsoft vs SMTP.

AirMail is unverified

The launch date, the underlying mail stack, and the claim of "50 billion emails delivered" are all vendor statements. We found no independent placement data for AirMail inboxes. Mail from private SMTP infrastructure is judged by Gmail and Outlook on reputation alone, with no Google or Microsoft tenant reputation behind it.

How it prices

As of October 2026 the pricing page has four tabs. Annual billing saves 10% on bundles and about 20% on standalone plans.

PlanMonthlyEmails/moUploaded contactsCredits/mo
Outreach Growth$475,0001,000—
Outreach Hypergrowth$97125,000 (monthly card) / 100,000 (annual card)25,000—

Bundle Starter$945,0001,0001,500

Bundle Agency$555500,000100,00010,000
Credits Growth / Supersonic / Hyper$47 / $97 / from $197——1.5–2K / 5–7.5K / 10–200K

Every Outreach plan includes unlimited email accounts and unlimited warmup. That flat-fee model is the reason Instantly won (see Inbox rotation and History of cold email software). The price of entry has been rising, though. Growth was $37 in May 2024 and is now $47, a 27% rise dated to August 2026 by IndustryLens. Hypergrowth's cap rose from 100,000 to 125,000 emails at the same $97, but only on the monthly card. The annual card and the comparison table still say 100,000.

The real cost to a serious user is the stack, not the entry plan. Instantly's own file suggests a "Growth stack" of outreach, credits and CRM at $291/month. AI reply handling at 5 credits per reply adds variable cost on top. See Pricing landscape and the pricing table.

Who uses it and why

  • Founders and small teams (Founders and small B2B teams) pick it for the UI. Third-party comparisons call it "one of the cleanest UIs of any cold email tool", and it bundles data, sending and replies in one tab.
  • Small and mid-size agencies (Lead-gen agencies) use it for unlimited inboxes and the warmup pool. Instantly runs an affiliate and white-label reseller programme for them.
  • The info economy (The info economy). Instantly's distribution runs through course sellers, YouTubers and its own community. Its affiliate page names "outbound educator with a course or community" as the ideal partner.

Distribution is the moat. The "Cold Email Masterclass" Facebook group grew from 6,000 members in 2022 to 50,000+ by January 2025. Instantly also runs a daily live show, Instantly Academy, a Slack community and an "Instantly Creators" programme. Affiliates earn 20–40% recurring through PartnerStack: 30% from the 51st referral and 40% from the 76th, plus 10% on VIP referrals for up to 12 months. Since August 2026 users have also earned 50 credits a week for posting their campaign results on social media (changelog). See Distribution.

Where it is strong

  • UX and time-to-first-campaign. This is the most consistent praise in Reddit-derived summaries and comparisons.
  • The largest warmup network it claims in the category, at 4.2M+ accounts, plus SISR private IP rotation on the top tiers. See Built-in warmup.
  • Data and sending in one place. SuperSearch with waterfall enrichment removes the need for Apollo or Clay for many SMB users. See Built-in lead database.
  • Benchmark data. Its 2026 benchmark report covers 2025 sends: 3.43% average reply rate, 10.7%+ for the top decile, 58% of replies to the first email. Other published averages for the period run from 0.45% (Belkins) to 3.7% (Saleshandy) because denominators differ. A newcomer cannot match data at that scale. See Reply benchmarks.
  • Agent-readiness. It ships an API, MCP, SDK and CLI, agent-readable pricing and an llms.txt. Agents can buy mailboxes and launch campaigns without a human.

Where it is weak

  • Support and billing. Recent 1-star Trustpilot reviews (September 2026) repeat the same complaints: "no way to contact a human", AI-chatbot loops, cancellations that "keep charging", "all sales are final". Instantly put almost half its staff on support in 2022. It looks like support did not keep pace with 40,000+ customers.
  • Pricing complexity. It now sells bundles, outreach, credits, CRM, visitors, AirMail and VIP. Features like replying from Unibox sit on higher tiers, and Trustpilot reviewers call these paywalls they found only after buying.
  • Agency tooling. Comparisons consistently rank Smartlead ahead on white-label, client sub-accounts and per-client analytics (BounceZero, July 2026).
  • Dependence on Google and Microsoft. Until AirMail, the whole model rode on Workspace and Microsoft 365 inboxes, which the providers are actively policing (Google and Yahoo sender rules, Microsoft rules: Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 limits).
Trustpilot status

One fetch of Instantly's Trustpilot page (4 October 2026) reported the TrustScore as hidden for a guideline breach. A second fetch showed a normal score of about 3.8 with no notice. We could not confirm either, so treat it as unverified.

Outages

Instantly's status page reports no incidents and 100% uptime for August–October 2026. We found no independent record of dated outages. Treat the status page as marketing, not evidence.

Trajectory

Instantly is moving from a sending tool to a full outbound suite: data, CRM, AI SDR, voice agents and its own inboxes. The August 2026 price rise and the new bundles show it trading low-price leadership for revenue per user. Customer claims range from "40,000+ customers" to "700,000+ businesses", which suggests a very large free and churned base around a paying core. GetLatka's estimate of $38.2M for 2026 is plausible but uncorroborated. The biggest bet is AirMail. If owned infrastructure delivers, Instantly escapes Google and Microsoft's leverage. If it doesn't, it carries the reputation risk of a shared bulk sender.

The read

Instantly is the incumbent to beat on mindshare, not on product depth. Its moat is distribution: community, affiliates and creators. Its exposed flanks are support, pricing clarity and serious agency operations.

What this means for an entrant

  • Don't compete on "unlimited inboxes." It is now table stakes, offered by both leaders at $39–47. Compete on what happens after the inbox: placement, replies and pipeline. See MVP spec.
  • Support is a real wedge. Human, fast, EU-hours support and one-click cancellation answer the leaders' most common 1-star complaints directly. See Customer voice.
  • Ship agent-native from day one. MCP, a CLI, agent-readable pricing and an llms.txt are now baseline. Instantly lets agents buy mailboxes through its API.
  • Watch AirMail closely. If owned inbox infrastructure works, the battleground moves to who controls sending reputation. An EU-hosted, compliance-first version is uncontested. See Infrastructure strategy: build or partner and GDPR and ePrivacy.
  • Distribution beats features. Instantly built its lead with a Facebook group, AppSumo and 40% affiliates. Budget for creators and a community from the start. See Go-to-market plan.
